Weprin shortchanges voters with plans for Albany offices
I am stunned to learn that City Councilman David Weprin (D-Hollis), who recently lost the city comptroller’s race, is now vying for the state Assembly seat his brother, Mark Weprin (D-Little Neck), just gave up.
Mark was elected to fill David’s seat. If playing musical chairs is not confusing enough with the Weprin brothers, I now find out David may opt to leave — assuming he gets elected this time — the Assembly to tackle yet another position: state senator.
Let’s see if I have this right: Council, comptroller, Assembly, senator. Hmm %u2026 pretty optimistic of David. The only problem is that the moment he accepts his Assembly seat, he is a lame duck.
Can anyone explain the benefits of having a lame duck in office now, during our most trying times? It seems the more appropriate thing David should tell his voters with conviction is that he plans to be serious.
By the way, the name of the person who helped convince David to run for the Senate? Sen. Malcolm Smith (D-St. Albans). Wasn’t he part of the problem we had in Albany? Why would anyone take advice from Smith? A serious politician would not.
Please, David, you are not impressing anyone. Step aside and let us choose who we want to represent us. Stop manipulating us. We have enough of that in Congress.
